Courtney Vega

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and School-Based Behavioral Health Specialist

Courtney obtained her Bachelors of Science in Special Education from Appalachian State University in 2018 and then her Masters of Arts in Special Education with a focus of emotional behavioral disorders from Appalachian State University in 2019. After years of being a resource and inclusion Special Education Teacher, and moving away from my home in the high country, she attended UNC Charlotte to obtain her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in play therapy in 2025. Courtney is grateful to be finally back home in the high country.

Courtney believes in meeting each child/adolescent where they presently are through trauma-informed, holistic and strength based care. With the use of a child centered play therapy approach and trusting the child's natural ability to regulate behaviors, explore difficult feelings, and heal through self-expression. By building an authentic and trusting relationship, Courtney works to create a safe, culturally aware space that fosters emotional growth, perseverance and self-understanding. In addition, Courtney also uses modalities that include expressive arts, body awareness, and solution focused therapy.

Outside of work, Courtney enjoys spending time with her husband, two dogs, and multiple rescue cats. Some of her hobbies include catching up on movies/TV shows, playing video games, collecting indoor plants, gardening, cooking at home with her husband, and peaceful mornings/evenings outside with her pets.
