About the Role
Nature of Position:
High Country Community Health is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Psychiatrist to join our integrated care team. This position offers flexibility in scheduling (full-time or part-time) and a hybrid work model. Telemedicine-only arrangements may be considered for part-time providers.
The Psychiatrist will provide direct patient care, supervise psychiatric nurse practitioners
(PMHNPs), and offer consultation to primary care providers. This is an opportunity to shape psychiatric services in a mission-driven, community-focused setting.
Reports to: Chief Medical Officer
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care
Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients (depending on interest and experience).
Deliver evidence-based treatment for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, trauma-related conditions, and serious mental illness.
Participate in integrated behavioral health model within primary care setting.
Provide care in-person and/or via telemedicine as arranged.
Supervision & Leadership
? Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to psychiatric nurse practitioners.
? Review cases, co-manage complex patients, and support professional development.
? Participate in quality improvement initiatives and program development.
Consultation & Collaboration
Consult with primary care providers and behavioral health team regarding psychiatric diagnosis, medication management, and behavioral health integration.
Support development of care pathways for common psychiatric conditions.
Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences and team meetings.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
Adhere to FQHC, HRSA, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
Support quality metrics and value-based care initiatives.
Requirements
Qualifications:Â
Required
· MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
· Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
· Active or eligible for North Carolina medical license
· DEA registration
Preferred
· Experience supervising advanced practice providers
· Experience in FQHC, community mental health, or rural health settings
· Comfort with telepsychiatry
· Experience treating substance use disorders (including MAT)
Schedule & Work Model
· Flexible FTE (0.25–1.0 FTE)
· Hybrid preferred (combination of in-person and telehealth)
· Telemedicine-only option available for part-time providers
· Flexible scheduling with strong administrative support
