Dr. Emma Walker
Psychologist, Behavioral Health Specialist
Dr. Emma Walker is a provisionally licensed psychologist and behavioral health specialist at HCCH. She earned her bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in social work, master’s in clinical psychology, and ultimately in 2025 her doctorate in clinical psychology — all from Appalachian State University (go Mountaineers!). Along the way, Emma completed an advanced practicum placement at HCCH and discovered her love of working in primary care. Her doctoral internship was far from home in rural Yakima, WA at a rural FQHC known for their excellent training in primary care behavioral health (PCBH). Prior to joining HCCH officially in 2026, her postdoctoral fellowship involved increasing access to care in her rural community (Ashe County, NC) by establishing integrated services for K-12 students through a school-based health center.Â
Dr. Walker works within the PCBH model to support patients of all ages from an integrative, contextual approach. She focuses on helping patients meet their whole-person health goals and live their life in line with their values. She is trained in multiple evidence-based interventions and therapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, and others.Â
Outside of work, she enjoys trying out new recipes, gardening, home renovations, disc golf, and spending time with her 2 dogs, cat, and fiancé.
