Description
NATURE OF POSITION: The Lead Billing Specialist provides support to the Revenue Cycle Manager and assists the day to day operations in the billing department.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Revenue Cycle Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Day-to-day responsibilities may vary from location to location, but often include:
Using coded data to produce and submit claims to insurance companies
Research and educate HCCH billing staff regarding billing processes for new programs and procedures
Working directly with the insurance company, healthcare provider, and patient to get a claim processed and paid
Ensure that claims are compliant with FQHC billing procedures before submission to the clearinghouse.
Reviewing and appealing unpaid and denied claims
Submitting Patient Statements to Clearinghouse for processing
Daily Deposit Cash Sheet Reconciliation
Works with Front Desk and Financial Counselor with issues regarding patient accounts or insurance verification.
Tracks and reports front desk collections for monthly incentives
Answering patients’ billing questions
Processes Refunds to Insurance companies and patients
Supports Billing Specialists as needed
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Some college education preferred. Must have a high school diploma and completion of an approved Billing/Coding Course with ICD-10 training.
Must become keenly knowledgeable on the dynamics of FQHC billing
Ability to communicate clearly and work with patients and coworkers to facilitate cooperation.
Flexibility; ability to find ways to compassionately meet patient needs when possible; good organizational skills; excellent communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office programs, desktop publishing a plus.
Ability to work with people of diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
Ability to multitask
Must work well as a member of the HCCH team, using respect and kindness in interactions with other members of the HCCH team.
